Vantage Oncology Raises $22.5M Series D

By Lorie Konish

Vantage Oncology Inc., which operates radiation oncology treatment centers, has raised $22.5 million in Series D funding.

The company's chairman and chief executive, Michael T. Fiore, confirmed with VentureWire information provided by the company in a regulatory filing. The Series D was led by new investor Camden Partners and also included return investors New Enterprise Associates, CCP Equity Partners, Versant Ventures and Salix Ventures.

El Segundo, Calif.-based Vantage Oncology currently has 20 radiation treatment sites in California, New York, Ohio, Indiana, Massachusetts and Illinois. The company plans to use the Series D funding as expansion capital for both existing markets and new states. With that expansion, the company will also look to continue its strategy of acquiring existing radiation treatment facilities.

When asked how long the funding would last, Fiore said "it's nothing we really have a specific time frame for." Vantage Oncology is already cash flow positive and profitable, he said.

Vantage Oncology last raised an additional $6 million in Series C funding in mid-2006 through its investor syndicate. The company raised the first part of its Series C, $22 million, in May 2005. Before that, the company raised about $24 million, according to VentureWire records.

With the Series D, Camden Partners Principal Shane Kim will join Vantage Oncology's board. Kim said Camden Partners was attracted to the investment because of its business plan including physician partnerships and new technologies in radiation technology targeting a fragmented market.

Salix General Partner Martin Felsenthal echoed Kim's comments, citing the company's strong team and the fact that the company is addressing a great patient need. Salix first invested in Vantage Oncology alongside Versant Ventures in 2002.
