AccentCare Acquires Alliance
For Health, Names Pres. & CEO
December 12, 2002 - AccentCare, which provides
in-home care services, has acquired Brooklyn, N.Y.-based Alliance For Health, a provider of in-home care services
for the elderly, for an undisclosed amount of cash and notes. AccentCare has also named Biff Comte as president
and CEO, according to founder and chief development officer Joe Davis.
Alliance will remain in its New York office and will retain all 2,200 of its employees. President Elyse Campo,
the company's sole shareholder, will continue to serve as president. The combined companies have 5,200 employees.
Alliance should bring in $43 million in revenues for 2002, Mr. Davis said. He added that AccentCare's revenues
for 2002 should total $93 million.
For the last 12 to 18 months, AccentCare has been evaluating companies in the Northeast for a possible acquisition.
"The Northeast is a very attractive marketplace," said Mr. Davis. The company chose Alliance because
it's profitable and has strong revenues. Accent Care will continue to seek acquisitions in the Northeast. The company
will most likely raise additional funding to fund additional acquisitions. However, Mr. Davis said the company
does not have any immediate plans to raise capital. To date, the company has raised $45 million.
In July, the company announced the acquisition of Just Right Home Care, a non-profit home care agency based in
Torrance, Calif. In March, AccentCare acquired White Plains, N.Y.-based Comprehensive Homecare.
As the company approaches $100 million in revenues, Mr. Davis said it decided to bring on a new president and CEO
to help lead the company's growth plans.
Mr. Comte, who has also joined the board of directors, replaces founder Joe Davis, 39, as president and CEO. Mr.
Davis has assumed the role of chief development officer.
Mr. Comte, 50, joins existing board members including Richard Lin, partner at Three Arch Partners; partner Bob
Higgins and principal Corey Mulloy at Highland Capital Partners; Ken Higgins, managing director at U.S. Bancorp
Piper Jaffray; and Chris Grant, general partner at Salix Ventures.
Prior to joining AccentCare, Mr. Comte served as COO at Concentra. Previously, he was president and CEO of Premiere
Practice Management.
AccentCare is backed by Three Arch Partners, Highland Capital Partners, Cardinal Health Partners, Mission Ventures,
Piper Jaffray Ventures, and Salix Ventures.
